What is Scrum and how can it help your business?

Updated: Jul 3, 2023

Scrum is a method of working that can help teams work more efficiently by using an iterative and incremental approach to development. it emphasizes the importance of self-organizing teams and regular retrospectives to identify and address issues. Self-organizing teams are empowered teams that have the flexibility to adjust the way they work and to continuously improve their processes. Regular retrospectives are meetings where team members reflect on their work and identify areas that need improvement.

Scrum also includes three roles in Scrum: the Product Owner, the Scrum Master, and the Development Team. The Product Owner is responsible for setting the priorities and ensuring that the team is working on the most valuable items. The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating the process and removing any obstacles that are preventing the team from making progress. The Developers are responsible for completing the work and delivering a potentially releasable product increment at the end of each sprint.

The Scrum framework also uses specific events to keep the work organized and running smoothly. These events are Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective. Sprint Planning is a meeting where the team decides what work will be done during the upcoming sprint. The Daily Scrum is a short meeting where team members share what they did yesterday, what they plan to do today, and what obstacles they are facing. Sprint Review is a meeting where the team demonstrates the work they've completed during the sprint, and the product owner and stakeholders provide feedback. Sprint Retrospective is a meeting where the team reflects on the work they've done, and identifies areas that need improvement.

Scrum also highlights the importance of communication and collaboration between team members, which leads to higher productivity and better quality work. Overall, Scrum can help teams deliver more in less time, and with greater efficiency and effectiveness. By using Scrum, teams can work more efficiently and effectively, which leads to increased productivity, better quality work, and higher customer satisfaction.
