Every product leader knows the feeling of a high-stakes brainstorming session. There are usually three roles involved and sometimes one person might play multiple roles. The Chief Product Officer (CPO) sets a bold vision for the year, and the Product Managers (PMs) and Product Owners (POs) gather around a whiteboard with high hopes and a fresh pack of Post-it notes. We do this because we care deeply about creating something original.


But often, despite our best efforts, these sessions yield "safe" ideas. They become incremental upgrades that feel familiar because they are based on what the "average" user wants today.
